Clit 45 at Stage 83

Last night I went to see Clit 45, Career Soldiers, The Infected, and The Frantic play at Stage 83 in Lemont. Cheddar and Lady Nines came by early and picked me up because the promoter (Rose Red Productions) was borrowing a couple of mics from Cheddar Nines for the show. We were at the club long before the doors open and hung out while we waited for the doors to open, and then the show to start.

The Frantic played first. They were a rather melodic style of punk rock comprised of high school kids. They were really enjoyable and had a rather large following among the crowd. They are playing at the 30 Years of Punk show we are putting on June 3 and I’m looking forward to seeing them play again. It would have been nice had they stuck around to hang out for the rest of the show instead of high-tailing it out of there 10 minutes after their set was done though.

Next up were The Infected, another local act (and some really nice guys). They have a sort of metal/hardcore conflict going on with their sound depending on what songs they are playing. They definitely reminded me of how hardcore started merging with metal in the late 1980s. I like about half their set, especially their song, “Chicago Horror”.

Career Soldiers followed and they played straight up hardcore with throat full of glass shrieking vocals. I liked some of the set but after awhile the songs started to sound the same to me. It could be that I was just getting tired and thus I had a short attention span, but I don’t know.

Last up were Clit 45. With a name like that I expected there to be some ladies in the band, but it was all guys. They were fine in my book and I was enjoying them alright until they decided to soil a Descendents song which was totally uncalled for. Why they chose this over their own songs, which are more than fine, will remain one of life’s great mysteries and after that, they were soiled for me and I was down on them. That shit is bush league! It didn’t appear many of the kids in the audience was even aware that it was a Descendents song, in fact I wouldn’t have been surprised if you told me hardly any of them knew who the Descendents were.

I tried out a new lens I just got for my camera on many of these shots. It is the Canon f1.8/50mm lens. Sadly this wasn’t the best environment to test it seeing as there was exactly two lights illuminating the stage along with two black lights. I eventually gave up and started using the flash and was goofing around with the fisheye attachment I have.

There’s a few more pictures after the jump.
