Last night was the second and final night of Cabaret Voltaire at Metro. Just like the night before, they filled up the place nicely.
I Speak Machine was up first and just like Tuesday, Tara put on am amazing performance well worthy of fighting traffic to get to the club in time to see her play. It’s hard to pick a better performance between the two nights but I may have to give the nod to this one. Tara will be performing with Pigface in November for their one-off show here in Chicago which is great news!
Cabaret Voltaire took the stage of the Metro for the last time. It’s always a bittersweet experience going to see a band knowing this will be the last time you’ll ever get to witness them perform. Getting a chance to say goodbye is a rare thing though, so one must cherish these moments and really soak it all in, and that’s just what the audience did last night.
The band played the exact same set as the night before, with the exact same perfect delivery and enthusiasm. Stephen Mallinder was a little less talkative last night than the night before, but the band more than made up for that by delivering that amazing set that had the entire main floor of the metro dancing to one last time. Both of these shows really felt special, and they were. How often do you get one last chance to see a legendary, influential musical act before they ride off into the sunset? More often than not bands just break up with no warning and that’s it, getting to say goodbye is truly a gift, and boy did Cabaret Voltaire give everyone a wonderful parting gift. It was well worth over three decades of waiting to have them return one last time. Thank you Cabaret Voltaire, you’re influence on what became industrial music will never be forgotten.
