Last night my friend, Lewdd, and I went to the about to be defunct Bottom Lounge to see The Vibrators play. This is the “Knox’s 60th birthday tour”. 60?! Holy smokes we’re all getting old. I’ll admit to the band going mostly under my radar for my punk rock youth, it really wasn’t until I saw them a year or two ago that I got to really see what they were about, with pleasing results.
Paper Bullets
Paper Bullets
First up were Paper Bullets, who are a local band. This 3-piece (two fellows and one lady) play some rockin’ 70s style punk and rock. The tunes were quite catchy and it was a nice surprise to have an opening band I’ve never heard before be so enjoyable. They played about 35 minutes which seemed to be the perfect length as I wasn’t the least bit bored by them and wouldn’t mind seeing them again sometime if they happen to be playing at a show I go to.
The Peelers

The Peelers
Next up were another local band, The Peelers. I’ve heard of these guys before, and I could very well have actually seen them but was too drunk to pay attention/remember, I’m not sure. What I can tell you is that this was another band who I really enjoyed. They were extremely energetic, and played some fast paced, yet musical punk rock not unlike the Dead Boys and their ilk. The crowd seemed to be into them too. They played 45 minutes and there wasn’t a dull moment. I have to say that the lineup for this show was pretty solid and the opening bands fit in well with this type of show.

The Vibrators
Last, but certainly not least, The Vibrators took the stage. These two old guys and one not-so-old guy can really deliver the goods, and that is just what they did. They opened with “Bad Time” and then proceeded to play an hour’s worth of songs spanning their career. The crowd, of course, got the most excited for the older songs, most notably “Baby Baby”. The place was about half full or so and the crowd all seemed to be really into it. The band seemed to be really enjoying themselves on stage and they had some nice between song banter. The whole show had a really good, light-hearted atmosphere and the show was a good time for everyone. At age 60, Knox can still go, and I doubt that he’ll be slowing down any time soon. If these guys hit your town, it would be a fun way to spend the evening to go check them out.
Notes and links:
This show is the first one I’ve shot with my new gear. Thanks to my dad helping me out in a big way, I’m now the proud owner of a Canon Digital Rebel XT Digital SLR . None of these photos used a flash, they were all done under the stage lighting, something I was rarely ever to pull off with the old gear. I’m not using the lens it came with though, I’m using this Tamron lens, which is damn sweet!

I also heard that he flew B-52s and B-1Bs — as a CIVILIAN!!!! Outstanding!!!! I would be proud to have a dad like that!!!
