Destroy Everything 12/27 at Elbo Room

A couple days after xmas I went over to the Elbo Room to see Destroy Everything and a couple other bands. I had never been to the Elbo Room before, but I’ve driven by it countless times. I figure it would be a nice night out to see my friends and check out a place I’ve never been before. The club itself is on a corner and it has a bar on the main floor and the stage and another bar is located in the basement. It’s not a bad sized room and the sound and lighting was pretty good as well.

The Uptons

The Uptons played first. I was told this was their second show ever. It showed because they seemed a bit nervous up there. They played a rather standard melodic punk with attempts at light hearted humor but to me it just sort of came off sounding like a lot like they really like NOFX.

Hollywood Nightmares

Hollywood Nightmares

Hollywood Nightmares played second. They were another pop punk band and were even more melodic than the first band. They were OK for what it was, but there wasn’t anything remotely original about their sound.

Destroy Everything

This just left Destroy Everything. The only thing that changed between this show and the last time that I saw them was Hanover Fist was out sick, so they were down one guitar player and some backing vocals. They still played a tight set and their songs sounded nearly as good as when they have two guitars playing. They played about a half hour and much like the last time, for a couple days after at least two of their songs were stuck in my head!

  • i thought the uptons played a pretty good set. the first band was a no show, so they had to fill in at the last minute. that, combined with the fact that they’re trying to find a stage presence aside, i was impressed.
